Vietnamese 'escort bar' broker arrested in Korea

A Vietnamese woman has been arrested in Korea after helping five Vietnamese women get jobs in illegal "escort bars" in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province.

The immigration office at Incheon International Airport said Monday that the broker, known only as her initial "P," was arrested Friday for her alleged role in bringing them here on false documents.

She is suspected of recruiting Vietnamese women through social media, saying the job pays between $2,000 and 3,000 a month.

The immigration office said the broker received $2,500 from each of the five women as well as part of their salaries.

Investigators have obtained photos and resumes of 20 Vietnamese women from her laptop.

Many owners of such bars hire brokers to supply young women to accompany guests. Their work often involves sexual services, which is illegal in Korea.
